PMs of Qatar, Thailand Commend Bilateral Relations
 
H.E. the Premier and Foreign Affair Minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, and Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, have commended the friendly relations between the two countries, and stressed that the two sides have been keen on further developing and broadening them to include various fields of interest to both countries. This came during the joint press conference that was held at the end of their talks and the signing of two agreements and two memorandums of understanding between the governments of the two countries. H.E. the Premier while welcoming Vejjajiva and his accompanying delegation said that the talks focused on means of boosting the ties in different areas. The agreements signed between the two countries, he said, reflect the efforts made by both sides to develop their relations, pointing out that the signed agreements were in the fields of agriculture, energy and investment. H.E. the Prime Minister added that H.H. the Emir will meet Vejjajiva and his accompanying delegation tomorrow, Wednesday, and that the newly established joint Qatar-Thailand higher committee will hold its meeting.

Answering a question on whether the talks between the two sides addressed political, social and cultural issues, H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, said that they discussed cooperation in health fields, pointing out that there are similarities between the policy of the State of Qatar and that of the Kingdom of Thailand on many issues especially issues of concern to the region. On the Qatari investment in agriculture and the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement with the Thai side in this field, H.E. the Premier said that talks this evening covered the agricultural areas. He went on to say that they also discussed the investment opportunities for both countries, adding that meetings between the two sides concerned with this issue will be held tomorrow. For his part, the Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhust Vejjajiva, expressed his pleasure for visiting Qatar, and said that the relationship between the two countries are flourishing. Qatar and Thailand, he said, are nearing to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them.

He added the two sides signed a number of important agreements to strengthen their existing cooperation in areas of mutual concern, especially in the field of media and energy. They also established the joint Qatar-Thailand higher committee, he said, pointing out that this step shows the willingness of both countries to expand their cooperation in various fields. The Thai Premier described his talks with H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani as good and positive, and covered different aspects of economic and trade cooperation. He added that he was looking forward to meeting tomorrow H.H. the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and hailed in this context the importance attached by Qatar to science, education and sustainable development.
